Part of the huge Salzburger Sportwelt circuit linking three valleys and taking in the runs above Flachau, Wagrain and Alpendorf, this resort provides access to plenty of pleasant runs although not much to set the pulse racing for experts. St. Johann itself is a pretty town with an impressive cathedral and a lovely setting which has a very small ski area, but the chances are you will want to take the ski bus and head off to Alpendorf 3km away where you can access the main circuit.
There are direct trains from Salzburg which generally get you to St Johann im Pongau station in less than an hour. The free ski bus, L1, stops at the station every few minutes and takes you to Alpendorf in only 10 minutes.
