Reputedly one of the snowiest resorts in the Alps and with ample snow cannons, this resort is open from the beginning of December through until the end of April. The runs, though not extensive, are broad and mostly above the tree line and the resort makes for a pleasant day out if you are in the area, with enough variety for all levels - and the terrain includes a number of freeride areas.
Tauplitz is a traffic-free resort in the winter. The village, and the valley stations for the ski area, are just over a kilometre from the station, but if you don't want to walk there is a free ski bus to and from the station. The downside is that the connections for Tauplitz are slow trains, so it takes at least a couple of hours from Linz or Salzburg.
